Joyful Heart Design To Donate Proceeds of New Stationery Product to Pink Initiative in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Lubbock, Texas - October 6, 2009
Invitation and stationery company Joyful Heart Design has designed a new product to benefit Pink Initiative in response to Pink Initiative’s Be the Change $10,000 Challenge for October and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The product is a set of note cards displaying a silver princess crown printed on white linen paper and embellished with a pink jewel. The set comes wrapped with pink ribbon and is being sold by Joyful Heart Design on the company’s website, www.JoyfulHeartDesign.com/pinkinitiative or by calling 806-787-1450.

Pink Initiative is a community of wedding industry professionals passionate about funding awareness, outreach, education and research for breast cancer. “During our first twelve months, Pink Initiative’s board of directors and our growing group of vendor sponsors have taken our message to heart proudly displaying our logo on websites and blogs, spreading our message on Twitter, and kindly giving more than $7,000 thus far,” reported Emilie Sommer, founder of Pink Initiative and professional photographer with emilie inc.

Joyful Heart Design will also donate 10% of proceeds from all invitation and stationery items containing the color pink which are purchased during the month of October to Pink Initiative.

Zoo Theme Little Girls Birthday Party

Jennifer recently contacted me and asked if I could change up my Zebra Print & Pink Ribbon Baby Shower Invitation a little to make it a birthday invite for her 2 year old little girl. They were going to have her party at the zoo and this invite would be just perfect.

Unique Fall Wedding Invitations in Burgundy and Orange

Are you looking for unique fall wedding invitations with a modern design... with something other than the traditional fall leaf or pumpkin icons? My "Sassy Sunburst" design was created with you in mind. The stylized sunburst is warm and inviting. It is fun, yet formal; bold, yet simple. The squash orange and garnet red sunburst could be used on save the date cards as well as on other wedding accessories, decorations and favors to carry the autumn theme throughout the entire wedding and reception. At Joyful Heart Design, we give you lots of options to customize and personalize your invitations to make them uniquely yours. For instance, look how different the invitation can look just by changing the color of the pocketfolder.

Pair the invite with a Cranberry Red or Burgundy pocketfolder for a very rich, almost regal look. Add an orange mat (invite backing layer) to accent the names printed in orange text.

My daughter graduated from high school this year and we had so much fun getting her senior pictures done and then creating her graduation announcements together. I make no apologies to the fact that this is my very favoritephoto graduation announcement. We chose pictures that showed off her unique style and personality. We added one of her favorite sayings: “Peace • Love • Idalou.” And since she likes fleur-de-lis, we used a decorative fleur-de-li ornament in a color that matched her photos to add some flair to the announcement. She also chose her favorite fonts that reflect her style. We were very pleased with the final result and she received lots of compliments on them.

The Forever Stamp first went on sale in April 2007. Since then, more than 6 billion Forever Stamps have been sold.

Does God Still Speak?

Have you ever wondered if God still speaks today?

You will have no doubt about it after you read this great book by my good friend, Virginia Stewart Metzler, titled, "Our God Still Speaks."

I met Virginia through the Women Entrepreneurs of Lubbock organization. I was very impressed by her kind, encouraging nature, her love of life and her passion for Christ. AND, I loved her JOYFUL HEART!

We soon became very good friends and now meet together regularly to encourage one another and to pray for our families, our businesses, our country and whatever else is on our hearts. Though it was published last year, I just recently finished reading her book. It both amazed and inspired me. Once I started I couldn't put it down. May you be blessed by reading it, as I was.

After God led the Old Testament Israelites across the Jordan River, Joshua stacked up stones as a memorial to Him. Every time the Israelites saw those stones, they were reminded of God's faithfulness to them. Similarly, Our God Still Speaks is Virginia's own "stack of stones." It is her written memorial of God's repeated answers to prayer. Virginia and her former husband were missionaries in Liberia, West Africa until he was killed in a tragic plane crash. After she married Les Metzler, they became missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators in the Philippines. New Contemporary Wedding Invitation Designs Introduced at Lubbock Bridal Show

We had a great turnout at the Lubbock Bridal Show on Sunday. Thanks to all the brides and grooms who came out to the show. And thanks to everyone who visited my booth. I enjoyed visiting with so many of you about your wedding and how you intend to make it special.

Joyful Heart Design introduced some new designs at the show and they were a big hit. My new line of "Black & White with a Splash of Color" consists of designs featuring 5 different black and white damask patterns and also a black & white zebra print. All of the new designs include a splash of color to make a classic, yet trendy design. Check my online boutique often as I will be adding the new designs soon. Recycle Your Wedding Invitations

So, you took my advice and ordered more wedding invitations than you needed because you know that there are always those add-ons to your list---people that you just forgot about, folks that you didn't forget about, just didn't want to invite, but felt guilty when you saw them at a party and everyone else is asking you about your wedding, and of course, those long lost relatives that your future mother-in-law insists must get an invitation. And you were glad you did because you wound up using more than you planned to. However, you still have just a few invitations left, even after you've saved a couple for your scrapbook, and for your future children's scrapbooks.

>>>What do you do with the rest? Well, here's a great idea to get more use out of your leftover wedding invitations or wedding invitations that you receive in the mail...

Cut them up (or have a friend do it for you, if you can't muster up the courage) and use the pieces containing the beautiful designs to decorate some handmade greeting cards. Or...

Give them to a school or daycare for the kids to use to make their own cards or to use in other art projects.

Or give them to a friend who is into scrapbooking. Be sure to promise that you don't mind if she cuts them up.

I do not know anyone, myself included who has not been affected by breast cancer in some form or fashion. Since October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I always donate 10% of my October sales of pink items to help with this cause.

I recently discovered a great organization called, BRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER that holds Wedding Gown Sales to benefit the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation. The Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundations mission is:

“To provide an opportunity for metastatic breast cancer patients’ dream or wish to be fulfilled by providing a special time of 'Making Memories' together with their families, a chance that might not have become a reality without the assistance of the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation."

And also: "To advance the awareness of breast cancer and to educate the public about the vast resources and support available to breast cancer patients and their families."

Bold, Beautiful, Yet Modest Weddings

Just because you want to use a bold color in your wedding (like bright orange, hot pink or lime green) doesn't mean the styles of your wedding gown and bride's maid's dresses have to be bold. Many brides today are opting for more modest gowns---ones that don't expose too much back, shoulder or cleavage. Choosing to wear a more modest style does not mean your wedding has to be dull, however. Don't be afraid to use lots of color in your dresses, flowers and decorations. How about hot pink dresses with modest cap sleeves and bright orange sashes. Or rich turquoise blue tablecloths with bright yellow and green centerpieces (try placing lemons and limes in clear glass bowls, like photo above from theknot.com, or cut them in half and use them as place card holders.)

Dreaming of Cooler Weather

Although we haven't had as many 100+ degree days here in the Lubbock, Texas area, it's still been really hot! I like Summer, but I am looking forward to the slightly cooler days of autumn.

And working on my new Fall wedding invitation designs has really got me dreaming of Autumn and everything that comes with it: cooler weather, back to school, high school football games, and of course, watching the glorious splendor of the leaves changing from their Summer green to warm shades of yellow, orange, red and maroon.

Colors of the Wind

Choosing that Perfect Color

Ever been confused about how to portray that certain 'look' you want? Picking the right color can make or break your get-together. To choose which color you want, start by thinking of what mood you would like to have. Really formal? Go with black and white. Something a bit more down to Earth? The word earth says it all. Go with browns and greens or other colors found throughout the natural world. Looking at popular magazines can give you insight too. Look at an advertisement and think about if it 'feels' right. If you like the mood, consider using the colors in the ad yourself. These helpful tips can make any event you plan much likelier to achieve the effect you want.

Universal Letter Writing Week

This week, Jan. 8-15 is Universal Letter Writing Week. Who is waiting to hear from you?

You know, email is great, but nothing warms the heart like getting a real card or letter in the mail in the person's own handwriting. Such a nice break from bills and junk mail. So, here are a few tips about writing a letter or a note:

1. Just do it! It doesn't have to be perfect. You don't have to have the prettiest stationery, or even a different colored pen to write with. Just write it. Do it now.

2. Just write it! Don't type it. Write it in your own handwriting. So what if you think your handwriting stinks. The person who receives your letter will love it, misspellings and all. That what makes it personal and that's what touches the heart.

3. Just write it! It doesn't have to be a perfect composed letter. Just write from your heart, whatever comes to mind. Think about what you would say to the person if you were talking to them on the phone.

4. Just send it! It's OK if your paper and envelope don't match. Or if your envelope is just plain. Don't wait till you get your photos developed or uploaded so you can include it in the letter. Just get it in the mail. (You can send the photo later.) It can't touch someone's heart if they never receive it.

As an incentive, I will give two greeting cards of your choice (for you to send next week) to everyone who writes and sends a letter this week and then leaves a comment here before midnight on Tues., Jan. 15.

Fill-in-the-blank Thank You notes help kids

It is important to teach your child social manners and etiquette. There are many ways to help encourage your child to acknowledge the Christmas gifts they receive respectfully. You can craft the letter for your child or even guide his/her hand over the notepaper. When he/she can write on his/her own (7 or 8 years old), you can write the words down and ask your child copy it. Or, to make it even easier for your child, you can use Fill-in-the-blank cards, like the ones pictured below.

From ages 9 through 12, you will be more of a taskmaster, making sure that your child sits down and writes the note. When your child is in high school, the child will know that every present will require a thank you note.

My kids were always more enthused about writing thank you notes if they had their own personalized note cards. See my Etsy shop for more ideas.

New Favorite Movie

OK. It's official. I now have a new favorite movie. I don't know if it's very popular because I hadn't heard of it before, but it should be. It's called, "The Ultimate Gift". And it is the Ultimate, family-friendly movie, in my opinion. It has drama, it has romance, it has comedy, it has great actors, it has a great story that will leave you wondering what is going to happen next, and it has morals. What it doesn't have: bad language, sex, violence. I highly recommend it. Especially if you've ever experienced any problems in your life. (Who hasn't?!?!)

Check it out next time you rent a movie.

These bibs and burp cloths by Linabean are just cute as a bean! I love the very bright, colorful, fashionable fall patterns. I tend to do my best work when I'm faced with a deadline and a clear purpose. Such was the case recently. I signed up to have a booth at a Baby and children's event. I realized that I needed more birth announcements to show examples of my work, so here's what I came up with on the night before the event. (Yes, I'm a night-owl. I had rather stay up late than get up early, much to the dismay of my husband.) I'm also a bit of a last-minute person. :)

That's right. I have joined the Mafia... the Lubbock Craft Mafia, that is.

The Lubbock Craft Mafia is an organization of independent business owners who represent multiple creative dsciplines in handmade good - fashion, jewelry, stationery, fine art, scrapbooking and misc. handmade gifts.

That's our "official" description. In more casual terms, we are a fun group of ladies who have a blast together as we work together to market our handmade items. The photos above are of some of our artwork.
